![]() ![]() I developed my first RGB printer profile for the Epson 3880 using PrintFab instead of the Epson driver. I was finally able to develop a work flow that allows me to generate RGB profiles for PrintFab with Colormunki Photo on a Windows computer. ![]() Print panorama images with ease and without any limit. Well, how about this statement from Dinax, Mirage's makers: "No length limitation. This means the length limitations are still in effect, since it is the driver that imposes length limitations. I had this clarified by the Mirage technical support. This together with having the user use a null profile setup in PS for profile creation and use tells me there is some kind of proprietary "magic" going on under the hood. What is doing the conversion between CMYK and RGB? The driver is doing this, not the profile. But you set it up as an RGB device in the PrintFab applet. Obviously i1Profiler is treating the PrintFab driver completely different from how Colormunki handles it.Īdditional note: So you create a CMYK profile with Colormunki to be used with PrintFab. I do not really understand what Colormunki is actually doing in their handling of what appears to it as a CMYK device. BTW I can generate RGB profiles for PrintFab with i1Profiler. I even had to send information to the developers for their analysis. I found this problematic for my purposes. But I would not use it for the use of custom CMYK profiles. PrintFab is the closest you can get to a fully functioning RIP at an inexpensive price. ![]() If PrintFab for the Mac is like the version for Windows, it should not have any length limits. I also received this information from their own technical support. ![]() However the other products that you have mentioned are actual RIPs. You could also look at PowerRIP, ImagePrint, ColorBurst, ColorByte, Shiraz RIP, Wasatch RIP, and others. In some locations the 3880 shipped with Mirage. Mirage isn't too expensive for the 17 " version, but it is still €296.31 (about US$335). Most RIPs will get you over the 95 cm limit. That appeared to work with the Beta version of PrintFab, but I get different results using it with the Windows production release of PrintFab. What Windows software is available that will allow printing longer than 37.4 inches with an Epson 3880? I have tried PintFab Beta, but when I try to generate printer profiles using the X-Rite Colormunki Photo to generate a profile it only generates a CMYK profile. RIPs tend to work with CMYK, because it gives more control over which inks are selected to form various colors - the yellow ink in Epson UltraChrome K3 VM and HD being the least age resistant, it is good to mix it out whenever possible. Although I don't know how this would help, unless you paid the extra $500 for the CMYK version of i1Pro 2 Photo, on top of the $1200 for the RGB version. Tis a shame that the Color Munki software does allow you to save them as a TIFF, like the much more expensive i1Pro iProfiler software. That is the reason I am looking for other options. Colormunki considers the Epson 3880 is a CMYK printer if using Print Fab to print the target, but RGB if using Epson software to drive the 3880 and there is not way to switch it to RGB if Print Fab is used. Colormunki selects either RGB or CMYK depending on the type of printer you are using for generating printer profiles. The profiles are saved in the Colormunki software and it sends them to the printer, so you don't use Photoshop or Lightroom when generating printer profiles. Without printing through X-rite's software, you would have to use Adobe's Adobe Color Printer Utility (ACPU) Ps maybe lost it after CS4, and it was never an option in Lr. You wouldn't be able to print color targets with Ps or Lr anyways, neither provide the needed no color management option. X-Rite Colormunki Photo does not have image files that you can print with Photoshop or Lightroom for generating printer profiles. Thanks for the input on software options - I will look at these. ![]()
